Due to increased concerns about COVID-19, the city of Savannah decided on Friday, July 10, 2020 to cancel the 2020 youth football season. The season was anticipated to occur as part of phase three of the city of Savannah’s phased re-opening plan, which is based on local data showing an ongoing decline in positive COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. The city is currently in phase one of the re-opening Plan.
As of today, July 10, 2020, the Coastal Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health reported a total of 2,335 positive COVID-19 cases in Chatham County. This total is up from 1,601 cases just one week prior and up from 1,026 just two ago.
The City of Savannah’s top priority is the safety of the public and our employees, therefore the season is being cancelled out of an abundance of caution. The public and youth sports organizations are reminded that the City’s athletic facilities and fields remain closed. More information will be forthcoming if conditions improve and the city is able to offer modified sports activities.
