The Savannah Tribune Salutes Commissioner Priscilla D. Thomas

Commissioner Thomas was elected to the Chatham County Commission, District 8, in 1990. Her fellow Commissioners elected her Vice Chairman of the Board.

Dr. Thomas is a native of Savannah and graduated from Tompkins High School. She holds a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Savannah State College, a Master’s degree in Education and Administration/Supervision from Bradley University and a Ph.D. in Psychology/ Educational Administration from the University of North America. She retired as principal of Haven Elementary School after 30 years in education.

Summer Bonanza Partnership, Inc.; has served as Chairman Pro-tem of Chatham County Commission; became the “first” Vice Chair (female and minority) of the Chatham County Commission; is a community/youth advocate; and serves on various boards and commissions.

Thomas organized the Youth Commission of Chatham County, and the annually held “Summer Bonanza Partnership, Inc.,” a youth in action program designed to keep children off the streets, as well as providing them with the opportunity to get to know their community, its people, places, and things.

She and her husband Nathaniel have one daughter and one grandson. Dr. Thomas’ family are lifelong members of FairLawn Baptist Church and First Bryan Baptist Church.
