With This Faith – A Jazz Requiem on January 22

On January 22 at 7 p.m., the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah will present “With This Faith – A Jazz Requiem, to commemorate the birth and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah has held this event annually for the last several years as part of the many events surrounding King’s birth date, at its church on Troup Square, corner of Habersham and Harris Streets.

The libretto for “With This Faith” was written by Dr. Ja A. Jahannes, Senior Pastor of Abyssinia Baptist Church in Savannah, psychologist and teacher at Savannah State University. Dr. Jahannes has written multiple works including an oratorio, symphony and opera librettos, and lyrics for over 100 songs. His religious music has been published by Roger Dean Publishing Company. His works have been performed and recorded by distinguished professional ensembles and soloists in Europe, Canada and throughout the U. S. His many honors and awards include The Langston Hughes Award, The Joseph J. Malone Fellowship in Arabic and Islamic Studies, and The Danny Glover Award.

The event is free of charge and the public is invited to attend. Advance ticketing is not required.
