Savannah artist Napoleon Wilkerson will present an exhibition of paintings and watercolors at Gallery S.P.A.C.E. May 7 – 28. An opening reception will be held May 7 from 5 – 7 p.m.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Wilkerson will present a Portrait Watercolor Workshop for youth ages 12 – 18 at Studio S.P.A.C.E. on Saturday, May 15, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is a $10 fee and pre-registration is required.
The exhibition is a compilation of works over the past 15 years and includes realistic portraits of family members and friends, low country events, and historical scenes.
“I want people to feel the experience of what’s going on in my paintings,” says Wilkerson. “I want them to be a part of the audience that’s witnessing the event and to hear the ‘sound’ of the painting.”
Wilkerson received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from SCAD, and a certificate in teaching from Armstrong Atlantic State University. His works have shown in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Chicago. He currently teaches at the Savannah Arts Academy High School in Savannah.
The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public. S.P.A.C.E. is located at 9 W. Henry St.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free off-street parking is available. For information, contact 912- 651-6783 or visit www.savannahga.gov/arts
