The Coastal Empire demonstrated again that it is a generous community. United Way of the Coastal Empire announced last Friday it had exceeded its 2014 campaign goal of $8,888,888. The total raised is $8,905,818. The organization celebrated its success last Friday at the Victory Celebration at Hyatt Regency Savannah.
“It certainly has been a wonderful year. With the dollars raised, United Way can continue its critical work of making sure everyone in our community has the opportunity for a quality education, financial stability and good health,” said Campaign Chair Jenny Gentry, market president of Wells Fargo. She proudly reported campaign results to a sold out crowd of more than 500 people.
United Way of the Coastal Empire organizes its campaign under units for industry groups. Unit one, corporate division, led all others with a campaign total of more than $4.5 million. The single largest contribution came from Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and its employees with a total giving of $2,725,000.
The funds raised by United Way support over 100 programs and services across Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties. Funds raised will be invested to help children and youth achieve their potential, improve people’s health and wellness, help families and individuals become financially independent, and support families and neighborhoods with programs that provide food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities of life.
United Way of the Coastal Empire thanks Sonny Dixon of WTOC-TV for emceeing the event. Special thanks also go out to Kevin Holmes of WJCL-TV, Dave Kartunen of WSAV-TV, Savannah Pipe and Drum, Savannah Arts Academy’s VOX and countless community volunteers for making the celebration a great success.
