United Way Women’s Legacy Council is holding its 4th Annual Give-a-Way project to help low-income women and children find dependable transportation. The fundraising drive to raise $16,500 officially kicked off on Mother’s Day (May 13, 2012) and culminates on Father’s Day (June 17, 2012). Give-a-Way donations will be used to provide funds for transportation and Chatham Area Transit (CAT) bus passes for women and children who are being served through United Way programs and services.

For many low-income women in our community, finding dependable transportation is a major barrier. This lack of dependable transportation is often one of the most significant barriers to finding and keeping employment and accessing other services, such as a local food bank, health services, childcare and life skills training programs. The Give-a-Way project is one way in which the community can help by providing access to public transportation. The Give-a-Way kick-off luncheon will be held on May 24, 2012 at noon at the Savannah Morning News auditorium. The luncheon is a fast-paced, entertaining and thought-provoking event, featuring our area’s top professional women exchanging heart-to-heart conversations about the challenges facing women and children in the Coastal Empire community. The Give-a-Way kick-off luncheon is made possible through the generous support of the Savannah Morning News and Armstrong Atlantic State University.
