United Way of the Coastal Empire announced the final total of this year’s fundraising efforts at the Victory Celebration held at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah. Donors exceeded the goal of $8,338,000, raising $8,465,604.
Campaign Chair Kay Ford expressed her gratitude to thousands of volunteers, donors, and corporate partners for pulling together to raise funds to help those in need. “One of the many remarkable things about United Way’s annual fundraising campaigns is how the enthusiasm and generosity of the organization’s supporters remain high year after year. It would be understandable if the effort began to feel routine. Yet, high spirits prevail once again as we celebrate the conclusion of the United Way campaign,” remarked Ford, advisory board chair, Savannah Market for BankSouth. “Reaching this milestone assures that the support for United Way’s funded programs and services will continue to improve lives of thousands of people in our community.” United Way organizes its campaign into units of industry groups. Unit One, Corporate Division, surpassed the other units with a campaign total of more than $4 million. Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and its employees gave the single largest contribution with a total of $2.1 million. Funds raised will be invested in agencies that serve to help children achieve their potential, improve community health, and assist individuals and families become financially independent. This year, United Way funds more than 100 programs at 58 agencies in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties.
In addition to funding community programs and services, United Way also connects citizens to hundreds of human services through its call center, 2-1-1. During the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, United Way 2-1-1 helped more than 250 families by providing food vouchers, transportations, and other immediate needs.
