U.S. Wins Women’s World Cup

On Sunday July 5, 2015 the United States Women’s National Soccer team won the Women’s World Cup. The U.S won against Japan with a final score of 5-2. This is the United States third World Cup win since 1999. The U.S sees the victory as a rematch with Japan after their defeat in 2011.

The star of the day was a young Carli Lloyd who scored three goals in sixteen munutes during the match. In the world of soccer this is called a hat-trick which is the same move that won a World Cup trophy in 19991. Her most stunning goal was her third shot as she kicked the ball fifty-five yards from the goal leading to a victory for the United States. She won the Golden Ball signifying her as best player at the World Cup. She is also tied for most goals with Celia Sasic of Germany.
