The purpose of TybeeMLK is to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Federal Holiday and carry on Dr. King’s philosophy of love and justice by means of nonviolent community activism. Equality (Theme)

2020 is our 7th Annual Parade & Human Rights Forum at 2 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2020 starting at Tybee’s Walter Parker Pier on 16th Street, traveling 10 straight blocks down Main Street Butler Ave. to YMCA Campus/Old School Cafeteria. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Tybee IS Savannah Beach: The Beach of Savannah

In 2013, a group of Episcopalians from Tybee All Saints Episcopal Church decided to have a Parade and Program to recognize the National Holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After a year of preparation, in 2014 we had our first event.

2014 Edna Jackson (former Savannah Mayor), 2015 Dr. Otis Johnson (former Savannah Mayor), 2016 Walter Parker (former Tybee Island Mayor), 2017 John Finney (Exec. Dir. Savannah EOA), 2018 Regina Thomas (former Georgia State Senator), 2019 Dr. M.Ann Levett (Superintendent Chatham County Public Schools), and 2020 Richard Shinhoster (Savannah NAACP).

TybeeMLK Dreamer Humanitarian of the Year Awardees:

2014 Rev. Samuel Adams (Founder of Tybee Bar Church), 2015 St. Michael’s Thrift Shop, 2016 Raising Tyde Food Bank, 2017 Mayor Jason Buelterman (for Hurricane Matthew Response), 2018 Citizens of Tybee (for Healing and Helping the Hurricane Community), 2019 James Eldo Hartz (Tybee Affordable

Housing Advocate), and 2020 Rev. Dr. James Maury (Priest for Homeless in Savannah, Tiny Houses for Vets, Racial Healing Workshops, all as Diocesan Missioner ot Episcopal Diocese of Georgia).

TybeeMLK is involved with Racial Healing Forums conducted the 2nd Friday of each month until May 8, 2020.

The schedule includes 5:30 PM Supper, 6:00 PM Program/Movie or Lecturer, and 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM Compline at All Saints Episcopal Church, 804 Jones Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328. No reservations or cost to attend.

Also, the TybeeMLK Annual Juneteenth Wade-In will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2020 at North Beach Bar & Grill, 33 Meddin Ave, Tybee Is., GA 31328.
