The 38th National Syn Lod Conference of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated was held in San Antonio, Texas June 16 – 20, 2013. Lady Marsh was re elected for the second term as Area IV Director for the 2013 – 2015 years. Area IV is the second largest Area and includes Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi. There are six (6) geographic areas throughout the United States.

Lady Marsh first term of service impacted Area IV through the five programmatic thrusts, Top Teens of America, Improving the Status of Women, Programs for Senior Citizens, Community Beautification, and Community Partnerships. Area IV hosted two successful Area IV Annual Leadership Conferences in Raleigh, NC and Tampa, FL. Each conference made substantial increases in attendance and provided valuable leadership experiences. Through these programs, Area IV Top Teens collectively participated in the March of Dimes Walk for Healthy Babies raising over $4,000 and volunteered over 5,000 hours in various community partnerships. A $300.00 donation was made to the Sickle Cell Chapter in Raleigh. There were more than 400 Top Teens to toured UNCF universities/ colleges and provided the opportunity to meet with recruiters. Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded. Additionally, Lady Ernestine Kelly Scholarship was established with a value of $1,000 per year to a student attending a HBCU and another $500 book scholarship to be awarded annually. The Teens participated in workshops that included Healthy Eating & Exercise, Financial Strategies, Today’s Music, Attitude, Etiquette, Leadership Skills, Peer Pressure, Teen Violence and Team Building. The Teens presented eight hundred and forty (840) Book bags and toiletries to shelters

Area IV inducted over seventy (70) Ladies and three hundred and eighty three (383) Top Teens. Two (2) newsletters were published, a joint Area Nomination campaign booklet was developed, and an Area UNCF Viewing Party was sponsored collecting $750.00. Past Area IV Directors were given prominence for their contributions, chapter Organizers and Presidents were spotlighted at the Ladies Choice Awards Luncheon. Cancers Survivors were recognized and educational materials were distributed. The Veterans in attendance were also honored. The Area approved to establish monetary donations to the winners of the TTA Essay and Speakers Tournaments.

Area IV continued to shine at Syn Lod with Top Teens LaZaire Reese of the St. Petersburg Chapter elected as National President and Teen Cameron Bouligny, Savannah Chapter elected as National First Vice President. Teen Copeland White, Jackson Chapter won Outstanding Top Teen. Lady Margaret Rogers, Jackson Chapter won “Top Lady of the Year.” The following Area IV Ladies served as chair of National Committees: Cleatrice McTorry, Nashville Chapter – Sickle Cell Chair, Lorretta Cottman, Tampa Bay WCF Chapter – Life Memberships, Crystal Pittman, Miami Chapter – Legislative Action, Naomi Nesbitt, St. Petersburg Chapter – Scholarships and Annette Mitchell, Savannah Chapter, Election Chair. Lady Carrie Howard, Savannah Chapter, was re elected to National Top Teens Director.

Area IV received National recognition by receiving the “National President’s Outstanding Area Award for 2011 – 2013.” Lady Marsh was also appointed to Chair the National Area Directors Council.

Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 C3 organization that focus on “Service to Youth and Adults.” TLOD membership includes thousands of dedicated, concerned, hardworking women. Top Ladies supports through partnerships with the National Council of Negro Women, (NCNW), National Association of Colored People (NAACP), United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Sickle Cell Disease Awareness, and TLOD Literacy Program. TLOD has included in its programs, AARP and cooperative peer education with Top Teens of America and the National Foundation, March of Dimes.
