Top Ladies Celebrate Anniversary

The Savannah Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Saturday, May 19th at Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 1110 Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. at 4:00P.M. The keynote speaker is Lady Yvonne Shaw, Ed.P, from the Augusta Chapter of TLOD.

Dr. Shaw received a B.S. Degree from Tuskegee Institute (University), a Master’s Degree from South Carolina State University and a Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University.

She has served as Girls’ Basketball Coach and Physical Education Teacher at Lucy Laney High School, Science and Health Teacher at A.R. Johnson Jr. High School and Murphy Jr. High School, and Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, and Principal in the Richmond County School System. Having served as Principal of two elementary schools in Augusta, she retired from the public school system in 1993 after serving for 33 years.

She has received numerous awards and commendations: Top lady of the Year –Augusta Chapter- 1999; Alpha Phi Alpha Award for unselfish and dedicated service to the Augusta community in Education; the Governor of Georgia’s Education Reform Leader of Distinction Award; Augusta Blacks in History Committee Award; and the Georgia Medical Authority Commission Award.
