The Savannah Jazz Festival will be held Sept. 23-30. The Savannah Jazz Festival, in its 31st year -and the largest free festival in the southeast- celebrates jazz as a living art form and is built on a constantly evolving tradition. The festival boasts the best in international, national, regional and local jazz talent and offers all types of jazz, from traditional Swing, Straight-ahead and Bop, to melodic standards, progressive Contemporary, and funky down-home “gutbucket” Blues. The historic city of Savannah provides a stunning backdrop for this nationally renowned festival. The festival begins on September 23rd with Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday events at Blowin’ Smoke – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday events will be held at beautiful Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah.
With major funding provided by the City of Savannah, the Festival is FREE and open to the public.
There will be food and drink venders on-site.
This year’s festival features Vibraphonist Warren Chiasson with the University of North Florida Jazz Ensemble, Tony Monaco B3 Trio, 14 year old international jazz guitar virtuoso Andreas Varady Quartet, Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, The Coastal Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars, Bob Mastellar & The Jazz Corner All-Stars, Swing ’42 Hot Club of Columbia, Savannah Jazz Orchestra featuring sax sensations Ed Calle & Sam Skelton, The Jody Espina Quartet, The Eric Culberson Blues Band, Amburgey & Hanson, the SSU Gospel Choir, and much more.
The Film: “In Good Time: The Piano Jazz of Marian McPartland” will be shown on Monday Night , Sept 24th. Sponsored in part by the Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah, the filmmaker will be on hand to speak about the making of the film and answer questions.
