The Savannah Jaycees will host their annual Tacky Christmas Party on Saturday, December 13 at the Savannah Jaycees Building, located at 101 Atlas Street. Attendance is free, but the organization suggests a $20 donation to the Kicklighter Resource Center.
Festivities will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and food and drinks will be provided. There will be a prize for the tackiest attire, so guests are encouraged to get creative with their sweaters. Cabs will be available to provide transportation home.
Coordinator of the Tacky Christmas Party and Savannah Jaycees member, Mary Ann Blalock said, “As Savannah Jaycees, we are committed to giving back to our community and the holidays is the perfect time for giving. Our annual Tacky Sweater party is a way for members and non-members alike to have a good time and raise money for local organizations in need.”
This year all of the proceeds raised will go to the Kicklighter Resource Center, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with different abilities. The Kicklighter Resource Center has been serving the Savannah area for over 60 years.
According to Stacey Davis, Interim Executive Director of Kicklighter Resource Center, the school is for typical and special needs children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. “We have had extremely successful teaching methods for children at any level of development for over 60 years. Our program is actually the only one of it’s kind in the state of Georgia,” said Davis, “I am extremely honored the Jaycees have chosen Kicklighter Resource Center as the recipient of their annual charity event. It means a great deal to our staff and all involved that the Jaycees have stepped up to help us carry out our mission as we make the necessary changes to move forward.”
The mission of Kicklighter Resource Center is to improve the quality of life of children and adults with different abilities and other developmental issues through advocacy, community awareness, family support and direct services.
Marianne Ganem Poppell, Membership Vice President of the Savannah Jaycees, said, “I am super excited about the Jaycee annual Tacky Christmas Sweater Party to benefit Kicklighter Resource Center. Kicklighter has recently gone through a great deal of changes along with an entirely new board. I hope the Savannah community will rally around this much needed organization that has been educating all types of children for over sixty years.”
