The Pinpoint and Savannah Communities Celebrate the Life of Rebecca “Sula” Bonds Bowens

April 24, 1946 – March 6, 2019

Sula, as everyone called her, touched the lives of so many people in Savannah, always with a kind word if she thought you might be having a bad day. She was a joyful spirit as she fed the multitudes with her soulful cooking.

Sula grew up in the Montgomery Community and lived, for a time in nearby Pin Point, and in New York City.

She was the mother of four sons, Timothy, Marion, Henry and Ralph Bowens; step–daughter, Darlene Haynes Wright and ten grandchildren. Sula leaves three brothers, Solomon

Bonds (Carla), Cyrus Bonds (Juanita), and Anthony Bonds; two sisters, Shirley Bonds Wingster and Lynn Street; nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 15 from 5-6 pm in the Adams Chapel, 510 Stephenson Ave. The Homegoing Celebration for Rebecca “Sula” Bonds Bowens will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11 am at The Temple of Glory Community Church, 1105 Stiles Avenue, Savannah, Georgia. Adams Funeral Services are in charge.

  1. RIP SULA YOU EARN YOUR WINGS TAKE THEM AND FLY YOU ARE A ANGEL A BEAUTIFUL LADY U WILL BE MISS.

    1. Sister Sula. You were a friend and a blessing when my folks (your former surgeon, Dr. Wesley Ball) house was flooded from hurricane Irma. We had no working kitchen and relied on you and your family for helping to get us through months of repairing with the most delicious and comforting food. We even had plans to catch seafood for you this summer, but God had greater plans, and that will have to suffice and we pray for peace and comfort for your family.

  2. So sorry for your loss. She was a good hearted person. I just lost my mother. So all i can say to you’ll is take one day at a time. It’s hard so hard ,just call on God because he will see you though. Praying for the family.

  3. Thank you Sula for all your teachings and sharing your wisdom with me and my kids God knows you will be missed. We love you!! #GodBless
