The Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association will continue its 2020 super weekend celebration of Dr. King’s birth by presenting:
The Business and Community Unity Brunch on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Savannah Convention Center (formally the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center). The keynote speaker will be the Honorable Jonathan M. Mc- Collar, Mayor of Statesboro, Georgia.
Mayor Jonathan McCollar is a native of Statesboro, Georgia. He was educated in the public school system of Bulloch County where he graduated in the class of 1992 from Statesboro High School. He went on to attend Georgia Southern University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in History with an emphasis in American history. He attended the Jack Averitt School of Graduate Studies where he earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in governmental and non-profit organizations. Mayor Mc- Collar is a devoted husband to the exceptional Adrianne McCollar and is an adoring father of five.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Citywide Memorial Worship Service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at Saint Paul CME Church, Reverend DeHenri Thurman, Senior Pastor. The Church is located at 1601 Barnard Street. The Memorial Sermon will be delivered by the Reverend Gregory Formey, Pastor of Potter’s Christian Life Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020.
The Huxsie Scott, “We Are One Concert” will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 following the Parade at 2:00 p.m. This Concert is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah. The church is located at 311 East Harris Street. The UU of Savannah combined Choirs and the Savannah State University Concert Choir will also perform. A freewill offering will be collected and will benefit the MLK Memorial Scholarship fund.
