The Links, Inc. Presents F.A.-ME

Twenty-two Savannah middle school girls partnered last week with some of the region’s finest professional women committed to helping them excel in academics, arts and cultural awareness, fitness, volunteering and community awareness.

The two-year mentoring program sponsored by The Savannah Chapter of The Links, Inc. is called Links F.A.-ME (Fabulous Active ME.).

“We know that we can be anything we want to be,” Savannah Chapter President Connie Cooper said during the organizational meeting. “We want to help these young ladies reach their skill levels to be what they want to be.”

Members of the Savannah chapter hope to make a positive difference in the lives of the girls using local members and community partners and resources.

The mentoring program’s regular activities, held at the West Broad Street YMCA, will include participating in a book club, journal writing, fitness and nutrition activities, character building and leadership workshops, and field trips.

“We are some powerful black women trying to give back to our community,” Denise Cooper, the program committee chairwoman, told the girls.

The Links, Inc. is an international friendship and service organization comprised of more than 12,000 professional members in 270 chapters.

“This year we decided to work with young ladies and to help them develop into model citizens of the world,” said Cheryl Capers, a member of the local chapter and a national committee co-chair of The Links, Inc.
