The Inflammatory Diet

High levels of inflammation in the body, contributes to so many of the chronic diseases we face today. Diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s’ and premature aging, (some scientists’ say it is The cause)! Fixing these problems need to always start with the diet. It is what we eat that makes us sick, more than anything else.

Many of the foods we’ve come to choose, today, (the Standard American Diet; SAD) we know now, fuels tumor growth, and are pro-inflammatory, due to the high content of omega-6 fatty acids. This group of fats are found primarily in animal products, processed foods, processed oils, and are used in fast foods and shelf stable packaged foods. These are the foods that hurt.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that the top nine foods eaten by Americans are cow’s milk, 2% milk, processed American cheese, white bread, white flour, white rolls, refined sugar, sodas, and ground beef, certainly not a diet that can support health. We know what inflammation is; when we bang our finger with the hammer, first the pain, and then the swelling, redness and throbbing. All signs of the immune system sending its soldiers to the scene to battle, healing has begun. Or, for a cut, it starts the clotting (stops the bleeding) and the healing process has started.

Chronic inflammation – due to poor diet, is epidemic in our culture. This low-grade chronic inflamma- tion tends to destroy balance in the body. When our body’s systems experience this constant inflammatory response, we become susceptible to premature aging and to chronic disease.

We believe that one of the main causes of inflammation is a low-grade bacterial, viral, or fungal infection in the bloodstream, or in organs such as the stomach and gastro-intestinal tract. Again, leading back to what we are eating, a diet of junk foods that cannot support a healthy and strong immune system.

Body fat produces a great number of hormones, and also stores toxins, (you might guess, this is not a good mix). Our hormones need a clean environment for their complex work, and the toxins we eat, have a lot of trouble finding their way out of the body.

Our cultural move today to the fast food diet, high in animal protein, processed foods, (foods that hurt), too few fresh veggies and too much sugar, has setup conditions that have caused our genes (DNA), to become triggers of illness, rather than supportive of our health. This, along with the sedentary way of life, and constant stress, means epidemic and catastrophic illness.

A lady I was speaking with recently asked about the body’s hormonal balance. We talked about many of the treatments available, and the effectiveness they provide. But, the most important work is to first center the body, allowing it to start its own healing process. Then you can add supplements as is needed, and, at that point, are much more likely to produce a favorable outcome. Start each health restoration effort by correcting the diet first, then the lifestyle, and then invoke supplements to enhance and complete the process.

Make the commitment to yourself to eat the best diet, manage stress appropriately, get restful sleep, get vitamin D from the Sun, exercise, and clean water. This is the recipe for health and happiness. It is the only recipe the body is able to fully respond to and regain its health and wellbeing.

Some other health problems caused by and exacerbated by inflammation include: Chronic pain, candidiasis, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, osteoporosis, acid reflux, acne and psoriasis, wrinkles, infections, along with many hormonal imbalances.
