The moment is finally here, where avid athletic participants and sideline watchers have waited patiently for four years: The 2016 Summer Olympics. Competitors from all over the world have trained tirelessly to be deemed fit enough to battle it out, exerting their all for the one thing that matters most: the gold. Even here in Savannah, Ga, two athletes had the privilege to train for the olympics.
So with the sporting event right around the corner, what should you look forward to? Here is the line-up for August 5, 2016 (to see full schedule, please visit www.rio2016.com/en/schedule-and-results ) Men’s team: Ranking round Fri, Aug 5, 8:00 AM (Archery) Men’s individual: Ranking round, Fri, Aug 5, 8:00 AM (Archery) Women’s individual: Ranking round, Fri, Aug 5, 12:00 PM (Archery) Women’s team: Ranking round, Fri, Aug 5, 12:00 PM Opening ceremony: Fri, Aug 5 7:00 PM With this being one of the most anticipated olympic games, women athletes are making headlines across the board; from the U.S women’s gymnastics team, which consists of Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, Laurie Hernandez, and Gabby Douglas, to 5-time Senior World medalist, sabre fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad (the first Muslim woman to wear her hijab to qualify for the United States Olympic Team. Venus and Serena Williams will also go toe to toe in sisterly love playing doubles Talk about girl power to the max.
