The 2013 Savannah Book Festival – with a series of special events at Trustees Theater and more than 30 free events at Telfair Square – is fast approaching! Circle February 14-17 in red. Leopold’s Ice Cream Parlor once again puts a literary twist on its many flavors and artist Laura DiNello has created Festival 2013’s image.
You’d never call Savannah’s world-class Leopold’s Ice Cream “wimpy,” but Leopold’s will be doing just that during the Festival— renaming six of its flavors to coincide with Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney’s appearance. Not-so- Wimpy Chocolate, Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Wimpy Chippy may top the list. Other flavors will bear new aliases after other Festival authors and the Leopold’s crew will be scooping them at their Broughton Street home and at a Telfair Square cart. From Rum to Bisque, is inspired by Bobby Deen’s From Mama’s Table to Mine.
“This is our third year collaborating with Leopold’s,” Savannah Book Festival Executive Director Robin Gold said. “The authors and Festival visitors have absolutely loved this collaboration. Last year Stephen King enjoyed his to-go Ice Scream on his way back to the airport.”
In another update, the Festival is proud to unveil its 2013 official poster designed by Cari Clark Communications in Savannah and based on an original painting that artist Laura DiNello donated to the Festival.
The 11×14 posters will pop up in store windows around Savannah over the next few weeks and will be available for purchase for $6 at the Book Sales Tent in Telfair Square on Saturday, February 16 and at all of the special events at Trustees Theater February 14-17.
