Last Thursday, February 4, many of Savannah’s leadership attended Savannah/Chatham Day at the Georgia Capitol. During the session, Georgia Senator Lester Jackson addressed the audience highlighting the proposed legislation for 2016. They include:
Greater Chatham County Security Surveillance Infrastructure package for ($1.4M); to include Savannah State, Savannah Chatham County Public Schools (SCCPSS), the Savannah Police Department, Port Wentworth and Garden City
Principal or Designee as a voter registrar in every High School
Use of Drones for Police Officers
Sexual Assault on College Campus (Ramsey Bill – SB37)
Fair Pay Bill for Chiropractors
Pay increase for Savannah Chatham County School Board members (to $18.5K); Increase for Board President (to $25K)
Resolution for the Hispanic Chamber (Seed money)
Gun Control Bill (all counties)
Censorship for city, county and school board members
Drop Out Bill ( Increase drop out age from 16 to 17.5)
Business Property Tax Relief for Downtown
Tech Building for Savannah Chatham Public Schools ($5M)
