St. Philip Monumental to Celebrate Allen-Turner Day

St. Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its annual Allen-Turner Day, commemorating the works of Bishop Richard Allen and Bishop Henry McNeal Turner.

Bishop Allen is the founder of the A.M.E. Church. Bishop Turner organized A.M.E. churches all over the state of Georgia, including the “Mother” Church of African Methodism, St. Philip Monumental.

celebration. Pastor Brown is pastor emeritus of the St. John Baptist Church, “The Mighty Fortress.”

Councilwoman Edna B. Jackson, Mayor Pro-Tem of the city of Savannah will be the worship leader.

The worship service begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010. The church is located at 1112 Jefferson St.

The public is invited to this celebration.
