SSU Relay Team Qualifies For NCAA Championship

Kenshard Hamilton, Cameron Hall, Chazwyn Price, and Darrius Baker kept the 2013 Savannah State Outdoor Track and Field season alive with a record setting run in the 4×100 meter relay at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Championship, qualifying the team for the National Championship.

Saturday, the team ran a 39.93 for an 11th place finish on the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, North Carolina on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University, setting a school record in the event.

The Tigers will travel to Eugene, Oregon, to the campus of the University of Oregon for the 2013 NCAA Championship meet, June 5- 8.

On Friday, Hall ran a 13.91 in the preliminary heat of the 110 meter hurdles, finishing in 14th place. On Saturday, Hall missed the cut by two places, after running a 13.89 in the semifinals, placing 14th.

Baker finished the 200m dash with a time of 21.12 on Friday, shy of qualifying for the semifinal run on Saturday.

This year’s SSU field of six athletes in six events was the second largest team to represent the Tigers at the NCAA Regionals in the school’s modern era. The Tigers have sent competitors to the annual postseason meet every year since elevating to Division I in the 2002-03 season.
