SSU Men’s Golf Finishes Co-Runner Up In 2015 MEAC Championship


Savannah State men’s golf tied for second place in the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship Tournament, held at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.

The final round of 18 holes was suspended on Saturday due to a severe thunderstorm moving through the area. The tournament format was changed from 54-holes to 36-holes, thereby eliminating any play on Saturday from the official statistics.

Georgia Regents University claimed their first MEAC Golf Championship title in their first year of competition within the conference. They earned the automatic NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship bid with a two-round team score of 19-under-par 557 (276, 281).

Savannah State share’s second place with Bethune-Cookman. The Tigers finished with a 17-overpar 593 (289, 304). Senior Travis Roe led the Tigers, finishing tied for eighth with a two-round 3-over-par 147 (73, 74).

Brandon Neals and Scott Rogers each tied for 10th place, shooting a 4-over-par 148. Devon Jakes finishes tied for 12th with a 150, followed by Joseph Barrows (157).

GRU’s Robin Petersson won individual medalist honors after shooting a 5-under-par 67 in round two for a two-day total of 136.

Florida A&M finished fourth with a team score of 607, followed by North Carolina Central (625), Maryland Eastern Shore (658) and Hampton (663).
