Savannah State University (SSU) President Earl G. Yarbrough Sr. has named Curdedra N. Andrews as director of the Title III Program.

Andrews has served in various administrative positions since joining the Title III office in 2005, including a promotion to interim director in August 2008.

As Title III director, which is a cabinet-level position, Andrews is responsible for managing an approximately $3.6 million budget supporting programs to improve academic quality, student services, and institutional and fiscal management.

Also, she is responsible for program monitoring, financial compliance, and overall administration of Title III grants. Prior to joining Savannah State, Andrews was employed by Friedman’s Jewelers, 2001- 2004, as a marketing coordinator for about 600 stores across the southern region of the U.S.

Previously, she served as a marketing professional for Carson Products, a corporate ethnic hair care company, from 1996-2001; she was promoted to associate brand manager in 1998.

Andrews studied accounting and received the Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Savannah State University in 1995.

She is expected to complete her graduate degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University in March 2009. Andrews is certified in grants management and is a member of the National Association of HBCU’s Title III Administrators.

Savannah State’s “Strengthening HBCU Program,” commonly referred to as the Title III Part B pro- gram, is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Title III funds provide assistance to HBCUs to establish or strengthen their physical plants, financial management, academic resources, and endowment-building capacity.
