Jackson Earns Basketball Honor
Savannah State Crissa Jackson has been named to the 2010 All-Independent Women’s Basketball Second Team for her play during the 2009-10 season. The sophomore guard averaged 9.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while leading the team in assist with 105, and field goals made (91).
Tigers Over .500
The Savannah State baseball team improved their record to 14-13 with home wins over Mercer and North Carolina Central. SSU defeated Mercer 11-8 on March 30 and 4-3 on March 31 at Grayson Stadium. The Tigers returned to Tiger Field on April 2 to take a 11-1 and 11-6 doubleheader win over NCCU and completed the series sweep with a 10-2 victory on Easter (April 3). SSU now has a five game winning streak.
Tigers Wrapping Up Football Drills
The Savannah State football team is entering its final stages of spring football practice. SSU will practice April 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12.
Jones Sets SSU Track Record
Amara Jones set a Savannah State record in the women’s 400m while participating in the Florida Relays April 2-3. Jones won her heat and placed 12th overall in the race with a time of 54.62. Shawn Sovenier was 11th in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 14.86 and now stands second among SSU triple jumpers. The SSU women’s 4x100m relay team churned out their best time of the year at 47.22. The team of Aleaha Hordges, Jones, Kendra Carter and Mekela Martin won their heat and placed 20th overall.
FVSU To Hold Lomax & Porter Golf Fundraiser
The Fort Valley State Football Program will host the inaugural Lomax & Porter Golf Fundraiser on Friday, April 9 at the Perry Country Club in Perry, Georgia. The golf fundraiser is named in honor of legendary, former FVSU Head Football Coaches Stan Lomax and Douglas Porter.
