SSU Shuts Out Aggies

Austin Denney pitched a three-hitter as Savannah State defeated North Carolina A&T 10-0 in the first game of a double header at Tiger Field on March 22. In the win, Kevin Herhily had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs. Charles Sikes and Lee Moore also had two hits and scored twice. The Tigers lost the second game 15-1. The Aggies topped SSU 4-3 on March 23 despite SSU’s Mendez Elder hitting two solo home runs. SSU lost a road game at North Florida on March 19 by a score of 8-7. The Tigers were down 8-3 before scoring four runs in the ninth inning. Sikes had three hits and drove in two runs in a losing effort. SSU split a double-header with North Carolina Central on March 15, losing the opener 5-4 but winning the second game 5-4. On March, the Eagles defeated SSU 9-8. Currently, Savannah State is 8-15 overall and 2-7 in the MEAC.

Lady Tigers On Winning Streak

The Savannah State softball team is on a four-game winning streak after wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Miles last week. On March 19, SSU swept UMES 11-0 and 10-5 while on March 20 the Lady Tigers swept Miles 4-1 and 6-3. Torrian Wright hit a home run and drove in three runs while Amanda McDowell struck out five in the opener against UMES. Wright hit a three-run homer in the second game while Amanda Hallman struck out eight batters in relief. In the first game against Miles, Amber Hallman hit a solo home run and McDowell struck out seven while in the second game Wright hit a two-run homer as SSU improved to 14-12.

Tuskegee Advances To Elite Eight

Kevin May scored 24 points to lead the Tuskegee men’s basketball team to a 80-59 win over Delta State on March 18. The Golden Tigers (21-11) had four players in double figures as they shot 50 percent from the field, 46 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line. ‘Skegee, who won the Division II South Region Championship, will play Metropolitan State (Minn.) at 2:30 p.m. in Evansville, Indiana on March 26.

SSU Boosters To Meet

The Savannah State Booster Club will hold their monthly meeting on March 26 at 7pm in the multi-purpose room in Tiger Arena on the SSU campus.
