Tigers Sweep A&T

The Savannah State baseball team improved to 27-18 with a weekend sweep of conference foe North Carolina A&T at Tiger Field. Kyle McGowin struck out 8 batters in a 2-0 win in the first game of a double-header on April 27 while David Richards had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs in a 4-3 win in the nightcap. SSU completed the sweep on April 28 with a 10-7 victory as the Tigers pounded out 14 hits. SSU traveled to Atlanta to face Georgia State on April 23 and returned home with a 11-2 loss. Chris Arnold had a 2-run double in a losing effort.

SSU Loses 7th In A Row

The Savannah State softball soft their 7th game in a row after being sweep by Bethune-Cookman over the weekend at the Tiger Softball Field. The Wildcats won 15-10 and 13-3 on April 27 and 11-4 on April 28. Torrian Wright hit a 2-run homer for SSU in the first game and a 2- run homer in the second game for the Lady Tigers.

Antonette Smith had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run for SSU on April 28. Mercer shut out SSU 8-0 on April 24 in Macon. Smith had the only hit for SSU (21-22).

SSU Wins At Penn Relays

The Savannah State men’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Cameron Hall, Felton Chinn, Lemaar Shakir and Randy Thomas won their event at the Penn Relays with a time of 58.07. SSU finished the event with five top ten finishes.

The men’s 4x200m relay team finished 4th and the men’s 4x100m relay team was 4th. Hall was 7th in the 110m hurdles, Kenshard Hamilton was 9th in the 100m and Jaymi White was 8th in the women’s long jump.

Berry Hired At Southern

Chennis Berry has joined the football staff at Southern University as assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. The former All-SIAC offensive lineman comes to Southern from Howard where he spent the past 2 seasons as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Berry has also coached at North Carolina A&T, Morgan State, Fort Valley State, Kentucky State and Morris Brown. Berry has a masters degree in public administration from Kentucky State and received his bachelors degree in business administration from Savannah State.
