College of Charleston Sweeps SSU
The College of Charleston swept a softball doubleheader from Savannah State on April 18 by scores of 8-0 and 8-2. In the first game, the Cougars scored five times in the second inning. SSU only had four hits in the contest. Amanda McDowell struck out five batters in a losing effort. In the second game, SSU was held to four hits again. Torrian Wright had a double for the Lady Tigers (21-18).
Tigers Sweep NCCU
Savannah State swept a weekend series from North Carolina Central on April 20 & 21. SSU won a double-header 7-1 and 4-2 on April 20 and completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory on April 21. The Tigers (24-17) loss a home game to Charleston Southern 11-5 on April 17 and fell to Georgia Tech 14-1 in Atlanta on April 16. Leo Moore drove in three runs on April 21 while on April 20 Kevin Herlihy ended the day with four hits and five RBIs. On April 17, Mendez Elder drove in two runs and on April 16 Joseph McCrary had three hits.
FIU Hires Coach From Norfolk State
Florida International has hired Anthony Evans from Norfolk State as the Panthers new basketball coach. Evans made $175,000 at NSU but has a five year contract paying $225,000 a year at his new job. Last two year, Norfolk State went 26-10 and upset Missouri in the NCAA tournament and this year went 21-12, losing to Virginia in the NIT. They were 29-3 in the MEAC over the last two seasons.
Morehouse Wins SIAC Track Title
Morehouse won their 8th consecutive SIAC track title on April 20 at BT Harvey Stadium in Atlanta. The Maroon Tigers scored 190 points to hold off Albany State who had 171 points. Stillman was third with 96 points.
