SSU Softball Sweeps NCCU

The Savannah State softball team took a threegame series over the weekend from visiting North Carolina Central at the SSU Softball Field. SSU won 7-4 and 5-1 on April 6 and completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory on April 7.

Torrian Wright hit a pair of home runs in the first game of the double header while Madison Hedderly struck out seven batters. In the second game, Megan Uhrman had two hits while Amanda McDowell struck out six batters.

In the final game of the series, Hedderly struck out nine while Amber Hallman and Rachel White each drove in two runs for SSU (20-14).

Tigers Down UAB

Kyle McGowin struck out five batters to lead Savannah State to a 5-1 road win over Alabama Birmingham on April 6. Parkner Nix had two hits and two RBI for the Tigers at the plate. In the first game of the series on April 5, UAB won 12-3. SSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Blazers pounded out 14 hits in their win.

Todd Hagen had three hits in a losing effort. The final game of the series saw UAB win 7-1 on April 7. Peter Poole had a double and a triple in the loss. South Carolina Beaufort defeated the Tigers 6-3 at Tiger Field on April 2 despite Chris Arnold’s 4 for 4 performance at the plate. SSU is 18-14.

SSU To Play Spring Game

The Savannah State football team will conclude spring football drills with the annual spring game on April 13 at 10 a.m.

Green Signs With Dalton State

Former Beach High standout LaDarius Green has signed a basketball scholarship with Dalton State for their inaugural season of 2013-14. The 6’10” Green played at Kennesaw State for two seasons before transferring to Dalton.

SSU Wins At Tiger Twilight

The Savannah State track teams did well at the Tiger Twilight Track Meet on April 3 at TA Wright Stadium. The SSU women won six events and claimed second in four events while the SSU men won eight events and finished second in three events.
