SSU Boosters Seeking Members
Dedicated and committed to providing financial aid to SSU’s student-athletes, the Savannah State Community Booster Club is seeking new members for the upcoming athletic season. Membership categories start at $30 and go up to $1,000. Member fees are tax deductible. Members can select from the six different donation categories which are Bronze Tiger ($30), Silver Tiger ($100), Golden Tiger ($250), Platinum Tiger ($500), Super Tiger ($750) and Top Tiger ($1,000). Margaret Hunter is the membership chairperson. Boosters meet the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the Tiger Arena multipurpose room on the SSU campus.
Bennett Earns Preseason Honor
Tuskegee defensive lineman Aaron Bennett was one of four Golden Tiger players to earn SIAC preseason honors. The rising junior from Hinesville, Georgia was a second team selection. Bennett was in on 25 stops and 10 tackles for losses for 23 yards last season. Additionally, he had one quarterback sack, one QB hurry, a forced fumble, a safety and two broken up
passes. He is the son of Aaron and Martha Bennett and is on the team along with his brothers Trier, a defensive lineman and Jovan, a offensive lineman.
SSU One Day Football Camp
Savannah State will hold its last one day football camp on Saturday, July 28 at Ted Wright Stadium. The camp is for rising high school students only. Registration will start at 8 am and will conclude by 1pm. Cost is $25 per camper if you register before the actual camp day and $35 per camper if you register the day of camp. Each camper will receive quality instruction, recruiting evaluation from numerous Colleges and Universities and a camp Tshirt. Certified athletic trainers will be on duty full-time
to supervise and attend to the medical needs of all campers. Registration must be accompanied by a nonrefundable check or money order. Cash only if paying the day of camp. Please make money orders payable to FRE Sports. If you have any other Camp questions, please call Ahmad Tinker at 706.412.3556.
Curry Joins Staff At West Alabama
Former Savannah State football assistant Dwayne Curry has joined the coaching staff at West Alabama where he will coach the defensive line. Curry spent the past season as the defensive line coach at Garden City Community College and before that was defensive line coach at SSU in 2010. Curry was an outstanding linebacker for Mississippi State. During his four seasons with the Bulldogs, Curry was a threetime Butkus Award candidate. He was also selected as an All-SEC linebacker four times, including three times to the first team, and a twotime consensus All- American.
