Lady Tigers Fall To

Nebraska, Miss.

State After starting the season 3-0 the Savannah State women’s basketball team have lost two games in a row. SSU fell at Nebraska 70-50 on November 21 and lost a home game to Mississippi State 56- 42 on Nov. 26. The Cornhuskers jumped out to a 15-2 lead and cruised to the victory. SSU trailed by as many as 26 points in the second period. Ezinne Kalu had 18 points for the Lady Tigers while Uba Blessing scored 14. SSU trailed Mississippi State 26-25 at the half but went cold in the second period as they only made 3 of 21 shots from the floor. Kalu led SSU (3-2) with 14, Jasmine Kirkland added 12, Blessing scored 10 and Alisha Nelson had 10 rebounds.

SSU Men Beat

Gardner-Webb Savannah State snapped a three game losing streak with a 72-66 win over Gardner- Webb on November 26 in a game played in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Tigers trailed by one at the half but used a 8-0 run to go ahead by 11 points. Rashas Hassan had 19 points for SSU (2-5), Arnold Louis had 15 and Cedric Smith added 12. SSU lost at Butler 57-42 on Nov. 21. The Tigers led Butler 20-17 at the half but the Bulldogs started the second half with a 23-6 run and didn’t look back. Preston Blackmon had 13 points for the Tigers while Hassan chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. In a 65-63 loss at Chattanooga on Nov. 25, the Mocs rallied from a 10 point deficit to defeat the Tigers. SSU opened the game with a 22-7 start. Deric Rudolph had 15 points for SSU while Joshua Montgomery added 12 and Hassan contributed 11. Babb To Play In

All Star Game Savannah State senior running back Justin Babb has been invited to play in the third annual HBCU All Star game on December 18 at 3pm in the Georgia Dome. Babb (5-10, 195) will play for the East squad. The Atlanta had 1,303 all-purpose yards during the 2011 season with 525 rushing, 103 receiving, 20 punt return and 655 kick return yards. Pioneer Bowl XIII

Is December 3 Johnson C. Smith and Miles will play in the 13th annual Pioneer Bowl slated for December 3 at McClung Stadium in Columbus, GA. at 1pm. JCSU (5-5) will represent the CIAA while Miles (7-4) will represent the SIAC. Both teams have ties to Savannah State. The Bulls are coached by Steve Aycock, a Savannah State grad. Aycock’s offensive line coach is fellow SSU alum Kelvin Thompson. Miles interim athletic director Phil Wallace is a graduate of Savannah High and Savannah State while freshman linebacker Jonathan Seldon is the son of former SSU linebacker Havard Seldon of Atlanta.
