SSU Boosters Seeking New Members
The Savannah State Booster Club is having a membership drive. Club president Bobby Lockett is encouraging new members to join as we as former members to renew their membership. Southeastern Louisiana 63 Savannah State 6
It was a long bus ride home for the Savannah State football team from Hammond, Louisiana after a 63-36 setback from Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) at Strawberry Stadium before a crowd of 4,974. Once again, the Tigers rode the leg of senior kicker Derek Williams who kicked field goals of 27 and 39 yards. The contest was close as SSU trailed 14-6 early in the second quarter. But the bottom fell out as the Lions out-scored SSU 49-0 the rest of the way. AJ DeFilippis threw for 68 yards for SSU (0-2) and Simon Heyward caught 3 passes for 53 yards. Justin Babb ran for 33 yards and Darren Heyward led the defense with 11 tackles.
Appalachian State 58 North Carolina A&T 6
Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore won his 200th game as the school’s head coach in a 58-6 win over North Carolina A&T at Kidd Stadium before 26,415 fans. The Mountainers (1-1) led 21-0 at the half before A&T scored a touchdown early in the third quarter. ASU ended the game with 37 unanswered points. DeAndre Presley ran for two touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns for the winners.
Clark Atlanta 21 Lane 3
The Clark Atlanta defense, led by Harrison Porter with a team-high 10 tackles, held Lane to just 32 yards of total offense in a 21-3 win over the Dragons. The CAU crowd of 1,257 saw the Panthers lead 9-3 at the half and out-score Lane 12- 0 in the second half. Clark Atlanta freshman Rashad Lewis rushed for a gamehigh 117 yards on 25 carries while the CAU quarterback duo of Bryan Mann and T.J. Smith combined for 232 yards on completing 19-of-33 passes and a touchdown. Both teams are 1-1.
