Small Church With A Big Heart

The 50th Street Church of Christ Youth Ministry ended 2018 in the same spirit of love, activities and charitable giving in which it began.

Under the direction of Youth Minister Bro. Marvin Johnson, the year was full of successful youth projects. In January a vision board craft project that encouraged the youth to set goals and acknowledge their individual visions for the future. This was a first time event that proved to be very helpful to both the youth and their parents.

A black history program that honored guest speaker Mayor Edna Jackson in February gave the youth a vivid picture of the civil rights movement in Savannah. Another gratifying experience was when the youth with the help of advisor Kim Herrington prepared a meal for the families of sick children at the Ron- ald Mc Donald House.

In May a group of 15 attended the Tri-City Churches of Christ youth rally in Albany Georgia A very successful Vacation Bible School for the youth was held in June at Skidaway Island with the theme “ Trail Blazers “. A well rounded program that included games, hikes and in-depth study of Gods word that encouraged the youth to be trail blazers for the cause of Christ . Youth advisor Ann Capers co-ordinated the etiquette workshop in September focusing on a variety of social skills. Concentration on those that needed help, was the project for November, with the help of the entire church the youth ministry collected turkeys and all the trimmings to feed 15 families through the Department of Family Children Services.

The year ended with a bang a big collection of new items coats, hats, socks, sweaters, blankets, pillows, shaving kits and other personal care items, was collected by the youth department with the support of 50th Street and the Chatham Parkway Church of Christ. The donation was made to Union Mission Programs, Mark Toth Director of Strategy & Development for the Union Mission attended the Sunday Morning Worship Service to receive the donation.

Of course throughout the year our young men served on the Lords Supper Table and our young women assisted with the planning and serving of fellowship dinners…while developing leadership skills. We thank the youth committee, supportive church members and Special Thanks to Minister Lenny Darden WAY TO GO 50th STREET
