Timothy Sheppard has been hired as the Clerk of the Chatham County Recorder’s Court. His long-term experience and knowledge of the court system makes him well qualified for this important position.
Mr. Sheppard earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Jacksonville University and his Masters in Public Administration from Savannah State University. He has had additional management training from the University of Georgia and the National Center for State Courts. Furthermore, Mr. Sheppard is Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified.
His professional associations and affiliations include the National Association of Court Managers, the Georgia Council of Court Administrators and the Georgia Municipal and County Clerks.
The Clerk of Court is responsible for the management of criminal and traffic cases for the City of Savannah, and the unincorporated parts of Chatham County, Georgia. In addition to the criminal and traffic cases, the court handles various local ordinance cases to include animal control, code violations and property maintenance. The court also processes felony charges from the arrest to preliminary hearing, and then transfers them to Superior Court where appropriate.
The Clerk’s office annually handles over thirtyfive thousand cases as it is the largest court of entry in Chatham County.
