The pastor and members of the Historic Second African Baptist Church cordially invite you to join us on Sunday, June 2, 2019 for our Education Celebration during our 11a.m. morning worship service. Students who have excelled in academics, attendance, special activities, contests or any award received during 2018- 2019 school year, will be recognized.
The guest speaker for this occasion will be Reverend Dr. Samuel Williams born in Midville, Georgia to the late Rev. Linyon L. Williams, Sr. and Cora B. Williams. He was licensed to preach at Second African Baptist Church. He was the pastor of First Tabernacle Baptist Church for eight years.
Dr. Williams was the organizer and founder of the Christ Memorial Baptist Church where he pastored for 13 years and grew the church from 25 members to about 800 members over a period of time. He then organized Faith Missionary Baptist Church where he has served as pastor for over 30 years.
He served two terms as President of the Savannah Baptist Ministers Union and served as the President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Savannah and President of the Emancipation Proclamation Association. He was a member of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. where he taught courses in the Christian Education department. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, NAACP, and a charter member of the Hungry Club of Savannah. In 2011, he organized the “Read to Succeed” initiative that is operating in many of the schools in Savannah Chatham County Public School System.
He is married to the former Claudia Quarterman of Savannah. They have two children. Dr. Williams is retired from Savannah State University after more than 30 years where he served as Dean of Men and College Minister, Instructor, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, Acting Vice President of Student Affairs, and Assistant Director of Student Affairs.
