SCHS Class of 1960 To Observe 50th Class Reunion

Springfield Central High School Class of 1960 will celebrate its 50th Class Reunion on Saturday, May 1, 3:00 p.m., at Fairmont Restaurant, 65 Fairmont Avenue.

The class of 1960 was the first graduating class to attend grades 9-12 together at the consolidated high school built for African Americans completed in 1956. Graduates prior to 1960 were already in senior high school grades at various schools in Effingham County. Graduates from various parts of the country are expected to be present for the celebration along with several teachers from that period.

The group will worship together at Greater Gaines Chapel AM.E. Church, 1006 May Street, on Sunday, May 2, at 11:00 a. m. Presiding Elder J.E. Taylor deliver the sermon. Rev. Bernard Clark is the host pastor.

Participants in this historic class reunion will have dinner at the church as the culminating activity for a grand occasion.

Program committee members are Ms. Ellen E. Eummer of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Herman Flowers of Atlanta, Mrs. Ernestine D. Small, Ms. Vivian Joann Scott, and Presiding Elder J. E. Taylor all of Savannah.
