SCCPSS Students Advance to Odyssey of the Mind World Finals!

Several teams from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System participated in the state Odyssey of the Mind Tournament in Columbus, Georgia, on Saturday, April 14th. Students from Johnson High School, May Howard Elementary School, Islands High School, Esther F. Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts, Coastal Middle School, Savannah Early College, and Savannah Arts Academy will advance to the world level competition in Ames, Iowa, May 23- 26.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international, creative competition in which teams of seven students solve a long term problem with very specific guidelines. Students compete against other teams in their division (elementary, middle school and high school). Students produce a script, costumes, props, music, and various content to solve the problem and present their solutions to an audience and a group of judges. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. Students also participated in a Spontaneous Competition. They were given a problem, either verbal or hands on and must come up with a creative solution in a matter of minutes.

SCCPSS students will compete with students from around the world in the 33rd Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.

This competition emphasizes creativity and teamwork. The event has grown in popularity as it makes learning fun while giving kids the chance to explore their imaginations and express their creativity.
