Savannah Technical College’s Surgical Technology program has been awarded continuing accreditation for ten years by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The recent peer review conducted by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors recognized the program’s substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation Standards.

“The commission commends you (Dr. Love) and your colleagues for your commitment to continuous quality improvement in education, as demonstrated by your participation in program accreditation,” wrote CAAHEP President Gregory Ferenchak, Ed.D., in the College’s award letter.

STC’s Surgical Technology associate degree students complete 120 surgical procedures or cases within the surgical technology specialties during supervised clinical hours in addition to classwork. Students spend more than 670 hours in clinical settings during the three-semester program.

Surgical technologists, also called operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations by preparing operating rooms, arranging equipment and helping doctors and nurses during surgeries. Applications are accepted in the spring semester for start during the fall semester (August) for each academic year.
