Savannah State women’s volleyball seniors Imani Williamson, Jeilynn Brown and Jedaiah Daniels have been named to the 2021 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) preseason First Team, according to a press release from the conference office.
Williamson, Brown and Daniels are the only seniors on a 2021 Savannah State squad that will field 13 freshman this season. The Lady Tigers were voted to finish No. 4 in the SIAC East Division in a preseason poll announced in the same press release.
Defending SIAC Champions, Spring Hill sported the top players of the preseason accolades. Middle blocker Kassandra Fairly was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Libero Taylor Fontenelle was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Albany State was voted the No. 1 team in the SIAC East Division, followed by Benedict and Clark Atlanta. Fort Valley was voted to finish in the fifth position in the East. In the SIAC West Division, Spring Hill was voted to repeat a first-place finish, followed by Kentucky State, Central State, LeMoyne-Owen, Lane, Tuskegee and Miles.
Williamson played a pivotal role for the Lady Tigers during the 2019 season. She led the team in kills and hitting percentage and was third in digs. She ranked No. 6 in the SIAC in kills. Brown earned a starting role for the Lady Tigers in her sophomore season. She finished with 242 kills and a .205 hitting percentage. She led the team in service aces with 41 and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the SIAC in the same category. Daniels transferred to Savannah State and made an immediate impact as a middle hitter. Daniels finished the 2019 season with 121 kills and 176 digs. She led the team in blocks with 49 total.
In the Lady Tigers first year back in the SIAC, they improved drastically on the three-win previous season, earning the No. 4 seed in the SIAC East Division and an appearance in the 2019 SIAC Tournament. The team finished the season ranked No. 3 in service aces and No. 7 in hitting percentage within the conference.
Savannah State women’s volleyball will open the 2021 season on Sept. 9 in Tiger Arena against Brewton-Parker College. First serve is set for 6 p.m. All Savannah State women’s volleyball games are free and open to the public.
