Savannah State senior Kevin Herlihy earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors while teammates Kyle McGowin was named the Pitcher of the Week and Mendez Elder earned Rookie of the Week to give the Tigers a clean sweep of the weekly MEAC baseball honors.
SSU swept Alabama A&M in a three game series over the weekend with scores of 7-0, 8-7 and 10-5.
Herlihy, who plays first base, batted .385 with five hits in 13 appearances. The senior from Virginia Beach, Va. hit two doubles, one triple and four RBI to aid the Tigers in the sweep of Alabama A&M. In the second game of the series, he hit 3-for-5 from the plate (.600) and drove in one run. Defensively, he totaled 23 putouts and one assist.
McGowin, a 6-3, junior from Sag Harbor, New York allowed four hits and one walk to earn a 0.00 ERA in a 7-0 non-conference win over Alabama A&M. In 7.2 innings of action he allowed four hits and struck out 11 of 27 batters.
Elder, a freshman from Roswell, Ga. hit .500 (5-for-10) with two RBI, one putout and one assist in three Tiger victories. In the last game of the series against Alabama A&M, he was perfect (2-for-2) from the plate
