The Savannah State men’s and women’s golf programs were honored on May 11 at the annual Sports Awards Luncheon with the first ever Spirit of Sport Award.
The Tigers were a crucial part of several professional golf events in the Savannah area this year as volunteers. During the Korn Ferry Tour at the Landings Deer Creek Course in Savannah, the teams volunteered to work the event and played in the Pro vs. Pro Challenge.
On hand to receive the award was Jacob Cunningham representing the men’s team, Alyssa Clements representing the women’s team and Interim Head Golf Coach Christopher
Miller. The Spirit of Sport Award was presented by Moore Industrial Supply Company.
Former Savannah State football player, Savannah State alumnus and legendary Savannah High basketball coach Tim Jordan was honored with this year’s lifetime achievement award, the John F. Hodges O.A.S.I.S. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sports in Savannah.
The luncheon is held each year to honor local athletes who have excelled at their given sport. They also announce the community and scholar athlete scholarships during the luncheon. The event is sponsored by Georgia Power and the Savannah Sports Council.
