Savannah State University (SSU) made the following academic leadership appointments, effective in September:
Reginald Leseane, Ph.D., has been named interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Savannah State and later earned master’s and doctorate degrees at Georgia Southern University. Leseane joined Savannah State’s College of Business Administration 21 years ago and most recently served as interim dean and associate dean.
Sudesh Mujumdar, Ph.D., is the dean of the College of Business Administration. Mujumdar comes to Savannah State from the Romain College of Business at the University of Southern Indiana, where he has chaired the Department of Economics and Marketing since 2010 and served as a professor of economics. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Bombay and has a master’s degree and doctorate in economics from the University of Cincinnati.
Shannon Mathews, Ph.D., joined Savannah State as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Mathews was an associate professor of gerontology, program coordinator and chair for the Gerontology Program in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Work at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), a position she has held since 2007. For the past year, she has served as interim associate dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education at WSSU. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and earned both a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Kentucky.
After serving as interim dean for the past two years, Mohamad Mustafa, Ph.D., is now the permanent dean of the College of Sciences and Technology. He joined Savannah State in 1994 as an assistant professor in the civil engineering technology program and became the coordinator one year later. Mustafa became chair of SSU’s Department of Engineering Technology six years ago. He earned his civil engineering degrees – undergraduate, graduate and doctorate – from Wayne State University.
