Savannah State Accepts Donation From Local Church

Savannah State University (SSU) accepted a donation of $35,000 from the congregation of the New Zion Independent Methodist Church. The funds will support student scholarships.

The local church recently disbanded and as a nonprofit, donated its assets to another nonprofit. Reatha Stevens, trustee of the assets, and an alumna of Savannah State, said the original bylaws stipulated the assets be given to an HBCU.

“We are so glad we are able to help some students,” Stevens said. “Until we all have the same opportunities, it’s important to share in wealth.”
