Travel + Leisure magazine has once again named Savannah among the best cities in the United States and Canada in its “2014 World’s Best Cities Awards.” Savannah made a huge leap to the number three spot after coming in at number seven in 2013.
“To jump up four spots is impressive, said Joe Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah. “To be ranked number three is outstanding. But to be included on a list of the top destinations in the country, as we are each year, is something that all Savannahians should be extremely proud of.”
Charleston, S.C. nabbed the number one spot for the second year in a row in the same category. A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure, was made available to Travel + Leisure readers at tlworldsbest.com early this year. Participants were asked to rank cities based on sights/landmarks, culture/ arts, restaurants/food, people, and value. Points were also given for romantic atmosphere. Savannah scored 88.30% beating out competition like San Francisco, New York City and Boston.
“To see Savannah, and our friends in Charleston, rank so high on Travel + Leisure’s “Best Cities” list every year should tell us all that we really have something quite special happening down here on the Southern Coast,” said Marinelli. “The most discerning travelers are paying a lot of attention to our city.”
