Savannah, GA. Makes Its Mark at the 43rd Annual GMWA Convention

The New Savannah Mass Choir, the local chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. traveled to Cincinnati, OH to participate in the 43rd Annual Convention. Founded by the late James Cleveland in 1967, the Gospel Music Workshop of America is a non-profit, interdenominational, interracial, non-sexist oriented, international and voluntary association of gospel singers and musicians.

It also includes ministers, educators, business professionals and University- College-Seminary academic partnerships. They are joined together for continuing education, cooperation and communication of ideas for the advancement of sacred and gospel music as African- American and International sacred music art styles and forms of music.

This was the chapter’s first appearance at the convention in many years. Elder Errol Roach started the week with a scripture reading at the annual Communion and Convocation Service on July 25th. He and his wife, Evangelist Joan Roach both preached at the Evangelistic Hour on Monday.

Elder Roach was also privileged to present one of his original songs to the Men of Promise, the Men’s Division of GMWA.

The New Savannah Mass Choir made its debut on July 28th at the Wednesday Nightly Musical with a harmonic and spirit-filled performance.

Several members participated in the National Mass Choir and the Youth and Young Adult Choir and were blessed to partake in live recordings, which will soon be sold on a national level.

We commend our local chapter on a job well done and we look forward to God’s continuous blessing upon this ministry.
