Savannah Development And Renewal Authority Announces New Executive Director

The Savannah Development and Renewal Authority, SDRA, which serves as the City of Savannah’s economic development, marketing and outreach, and planning and plan implementation arm for Greater Downtown Savannah since 1992, has announced the selection of Kevin Klinkenberg, as its new executive director. Klinkenberg will fill the vacancy created by Lise Sundrla. The selection was made after a national search and selection process.

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” reported Dicky Mopper, Savannah Development and Renewal Authority Board Chair. “Kevin will bring forward thinking and creativity to the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority programs and a deep sense of commitment to our community.”

Klinkenberg’s resume includes over 20 years of executive planning, policy making, design, public speaking, form-based coding, and marketing experience in the private, not-for-profit, and public sectors. He has led numerous award-winning master plans and public involvement processes for both new development and redevelopment. He is a Fellow with the Knight Foundation in Community Building through the University of Miami, a past President of American Institute of Architects/ Kansas City and a licensed architect in several states. His new book, Why I Walk, is available in early September. Mr. Klinkenberg has been active in Savannah with the Creative Coast, the Downtown Neighborhood Association and the Savannah Tree Foundation.
