The Savannah Children’s Choir will host their annual Summer Choral Camp July 19-30 at Savannah Country Day School. The camp is open to all musically interested children in 2nd through 8th grades.
This two-week, full day camp offers daily lessons in sight singing and music reading, music history, theory and more. The campers rehearse daily in preparation for an End-of-Camp concert on Friday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m. held at the Jelks Auditorium at Savannah Country Day school. Also, various local musicians offer a private concert at the end of each camp day, and answer questions about their art, instrument or profession.
This year’s topic is “Harmony”, and noted children’s music composer Jim Papoulis will offer a oneweek composition workshop for the children. There will also be a one-week Gospel singing workshop as part of this year’s camp.
For the younger (4-7 year old) children, the SCC offers Mini-Choral Camp. Each one-week, half-day session introduces musical concepts through play, and Mini- Campers also perform in the End-of-Camp concert.
Registration materials are now available on the Choir’s website, www.savannahchoir. org . Early-Bird registration includes two complimentary tickets to the End-of-Camp concert. The Summer Choral Camp also serves as the choir’s only audition.
The Savannah Children’s Choir ‘s mission is to unite Savannah’s children through the power of song.
They accomplish their mission through the annual Summer Choral Camp open to all musically interested children, a fall-throughspring rehearsal and performance season, an annual Artist-in-Residence program to inspire young musicians to careers in the arts, and annual travel opportunities for enrichment.
