Savannah Arts Academy Named 2008 School of Excellence

Savannah Arts Academy is one of 26 Georgia schools to be named a 2008 School of Excellence by State Superintendent Kathy Cox for student achievement and improvement. Savannah Arts Academy is the only school in Chatham County to receive this honor.

The State Department of Education recognizes one school from each Congressional District in two categories consisting of Top 10% and Greatest Continuous Gains. Savannah Arts Academy, the first dedicated performing and visual arts school in Savannah, was recognized in the Top 10% category which is measured by achievement assessed in reading and mathematics. Just last year the school was recognized as a School of Excellence in the Top 10% category, and the year before they received the greatest gain honor for demonstrating continuous advancement in student achievement for the past three years as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.

“Their legacy of excellence continues. I am happy and proud to celebrate with our Savannah Arts students,” says Dr. Thomas Lockamy, School Superintendent. The Schools of Excellence will be honored at an annual banquet in January at the Georgia International Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
