The West Broad Street YMCA, Inc., in collaboration with the Savannah- Chatham County Public School System, is proud to announce the grand opening of the Little Red School House No. 3. The ribboncutting will take place on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
The Little Red School House is a conceptual model developed by SCCPSS superintendent Dr. Thomas D. Lockamy in an effort to create off-campus learning facilities for parents and students during out-of-school time.
“We are very happy to be the next site,” offers Y board chair Dr. Philip Cooper. “Education is key to the success of our children. We see this as one more way to help kids achieve success.”
The purpose of the Little Red School House No. 3 at the West Broad Street YMCA, Inc. is to provide the necessary academic support to ensure that all children are learning at high levels. This site will be open to students in elementary through high school that are seeking assistance with CRCT preparation, SAT and ACT skills, homework assistance, and computer access for research and instruction. The Little Red School House No. 1 at Montgomery Landing Apartments, 714 West 57th Street, opened in January 2009. Little Red School House No. 2 at St. Pius Family Resource Center opened in June 2009.
The West Broad Street YMCA was founded in 1947 and is one of 7 Heritage Y’s remaining in the country. Along with recreational and workout facilities, the West Broad Street YMCA also has a full time early learning center, computer lab, and class rooms. Volunteers are welcome at any time.
