Boston coatings manufacturer EPOX-Z Corporation and Chatham County are partnering to put a new face on the roof of the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum – Georgia’s Official Civil Rights Museum.
EPOX-Z, which manufactures technologically superior high performance industrial coatings and energy efficient roof coatings nationally and internationally, has agreed to donate the materials to the museum and Chatham County will pay for the labor to install the protective and energy efficient roof coating.
The entire project has an estimated value of more than $7,000 and the EPOXZ NRG Cool Roof Coating will strengthen and restore the museum’s roof surface, protect the roof from any further deterioration and improve the roof’s overall integrity by addressing existing degradation issues. EPOX-Z Cool Roofs have also been proven to reduce the “Urban Heat Island Effect” by reducing the amount of heat trapped and radiated by buildings in an urban setting.
The EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating is a ZERO-VOC, solvent-less, single coat application that reduces overall energy usage and cost by reflecting the sun’s heat and can be applied to virtually any existing roofing material. The EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating is unique in the industry and is distinguished by high reflectivity, emissivity, surface tolerance, weatherability and a high level of resistance to chemicals and moisture. It adds years of life to a roof and can be installed for a fraction of the cost than less effective, less efficient roofing alternatives.
“An in-kind gift like the EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating is a gift that will keep on giving by helping us reduce energy costs for years to come and preventing the need to replace the roof,” said Dr. Billy Jamerson, chairman of the museum’s board of directors. ”This roof is another step toward our goal of minimizing the museum’s carbon footprint and becoming less energy dependent, and we are eager to dialogue with other companies who may be willing to contribute to our efforts to get greener. In the future we hope to address other areas of the museum such as the HVAC system, window covering and hot water system that could benefit from energy efficient solutions.” .
The application will be performed by approved EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating applicators and is expected to begin and be completed this month. EPOX-Z Director of National Sales Nick Peragine said urban areas and all environments such as Savannah and Coastal Georgia are ideal candidates to benefit from the energy and cost savings offered by the EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating. “We are excited to be in a position to work with an iconic cultural center that holds such a special place in the Savannah community,” Peragine said. “The museum is an important piece of this city’s identity, and we are enthusiastic about aiding the museum’s progressive efforts to go green. Structures in Savannah and the Coastal Empire really need this product to make serious progress toward achieving greater energy efficiency and formally join the international quest to preserve our natural resources. Our products have been implemented in a wide variety of settings and environments with equal success, and we have proven repeatedly that our EPOX-Z NRG Cool Roof Coating is a cost effective pathway to increased energy efficiency, reduced energy costs and a longer lifespan for a roof.” Go to www.savcivilrights.com or call (912) 231-8900 for more information about the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum.
